We had a very busy but fun St. Patrick's Day this year. We had our preschool day and decided to do the letters S and G for green and snakes and St. Patrick. We are still LOVING the letter learning sheets from Handwriting Without Tears...they had fun exercises to learn S like skating, and for G cutting grass.
We made this adorableSnake craftand the girls still have them hanging in their rooms! So easy!
The kids really loved making theirSnake Suckers!! This was super easy and they LOVED it. I used skittles instead of TRIX. I had leftover candy melts so I made more candy sticks and tried to make them look like shamrocks.
For lunch, I tried to do an S, G and green St. Patrick's day theme - it was a smorgasbord. We had cheese (shaped like shamrocks) and crackers, Strawberries, Green Grapes, Soup, these delicious and funShamrock Pretzels, Green Shamrock shaped jello gigglers, chips with homemade Salsa and Sparkling Cider.
My mom had us over for a delicious Corn Beef dinner (still need to get the new recipe she used) and then the girls helped me makeShamrock Pretzel Sticksthat night. A fun day indeed!
We have always loved this day in our family....not just because St. Patrick is an amazing Saint to read and learn about and celebrate....but also because we have a wonderful Irish heritage to celebrate. My Mamasan (whose maiden name was Collier and where the Irish heritage comes from) gave all of my sisters and I an Irish name. I was the Irish Shamrock and with a name like Erin...she always would send a special present to Her Irish Shamrock on St. Patty's Day....I miss her and those memories on this special day. I will forever be grateful to her for finding our Irish relatives and making that connection for us. One of our cousins, Father Val, married my parents and he and his brother Christor have made several trips to visit us here in the states. When I graduated from college, my Meme and Pepe took me on a trip to Ireland and Scotland and at the end of it we met up with my family and stayed on the original family farm for several days. I treasure those relationships I made and memories forever. It was so neat to go stand in the exact spot at the old train station where my (great +) grandfather left Ireland for America...the only family member that left. One day I hope to go back and visit again. So on this day I also enjoy looking at the pictures from that fabulous trip (slide below) and reading my journal of our adventures....I laugh when I read about the foods I ate, the sayings I heard, the things I saw...so fun being part of a different culture! Enjoy.
We did at least manage to wear green, enjoy some time outside (Emma LOVES looking and finding birds) and did have a traditional corn beef and potato Irish dinner!! Can't wait until next year to hopefully include more of the Irish ideas I was planning. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!!!
I have always loved this day...and with my name and Irish heritage I better celebrate!! We had our Irish dinner last night and my mom found a delicious recipe for Corned Beef which I will post later with my traditional Grasshopper Pie (and now I know why I only make it once a year....it is time consuming!!) I always remember my trip to Ireland with my grandparents on this special day and all the beautiful things I got to see, but especially meeting all my family members and learning the family history and seeing the original farmhouse and the train station where my relative departed Ireland for America from. This day is also very special becuase my Mamasan had Irish nicknames for all my sisters and myself. I was the Irish Shamrock so every St. Patrick's Day I used to get a special gift from Mamasan...thanks Megs for keeping that tradition going and for my special gift today!!! Hope everyone wore some green and said a special prayer to St. Patrick!!

We made Shamrocks to symbolize the Trinity. 
I printed out several coloring sheets of St. Patrick including one from my new Faith Keepers Combo Set from Catholic Artworks and also made our own holy cards!
