Little Gardeners

Last weekend we took advantage of some nice weather and got all of our plants in. After each hanging basket I would give it to the girls to get watered. They loved planting all the seeds with Papa for our garden....but for some reason they really loved just filling up the watering cans all day!! And Michaela wasn't too sure what to make of being outside!!

Sunflowers, anyone??

Hubby harvested (with Angelica's "help") last week all his sunflowers from the garden that had bloomed. As you can see, we obviously have more than we know what to do with, so anyone that has stopped by in the last week has left with some!! SO...if you are in need or want of some beautiful sunflowers, PLEASE stop by...he has even more to go pick! And to think he started these massive flowers all from seed!

Home Grown

Jason has enjoyed his rented local garden plots this year, although it has been a bit frustrating when you go to pick produce (like our watermelons and such) and find out that they have been swiped by others!!! ERRRR.....I guess that is one thing you take a risk with open local plots. Just hoping they don't swipe our pumpkins that are growing!! He grew everything from seed this year so it is fun to watch them finally produce fruit. We have had potatoes, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, watermelon, tomatoes, broccoli and he grew huge sunflowers!!! Some have grown better than others and each year Jason learns new tricks of the trade. We tend to not be able to even eat what we produce, so I "try" to learn how to freeze or make soups and such and freeze those and we give a bunch to my folks as well!!! Things always test better fresh from the garden.

Our Garden Helpers

This year, Jason rented a 10x20 and 10x10 garden plots that our local community offers in a new garden patch they created. The dirt was not great so Jason spent a lot of time tilling it over, getting rocks out, and putting new garden soil and compost in it...and finally got all his vegetables that he had grown in the greenhouse in the dirt!! Angel and Emma have enjoyed helping go check on the garden and water it, plus there is a park they built for kids that they enjoy visiting as well. So we hope to have lots of produce starting in July...probably more than we know what to do with!!!!

A Little Sunday Gardening

Last Sunday, Angelica had a BLAST helping Papa plant all the seeds for our garden. This year he paid for a community garden plot....a 10x20 and 10x10 plot. So we are hoping and thinking we will have lots of fresh veggies and flowers this summer!! Angelica loves checking the greenhouse every night to see if the seeds are growing yet and watering them! A little gardener in training!

Potatoes

Jason grew potatoes this year....first try...and last night we dumped the trash can out and while it wasn't nearly as many as he was hoping....we managed to get about a dozen good size potatoes...and he is determined to get more next year!! (the video is dark it was outside)

Summertime Gardens

One of the reasons my hubby and I love this time of year is all the pretty flowers and gardens we get to grow. My husband really wishes he had a farm to experiment and grow all the things he would like to. He did everything organic this year and is trying some new things. Now if only it would stay warm so things would produce fruit!! I finally got around to taking some pictures. My mom and Jason planted a beautiful front flower bed while I was in NYC....I was so surprised and it made the front of the house look so much better....it was just dead space before. And the flowers are just starting to bloom!!

Summer time herbs...

In the summer, I enjoy growing all my herbs, then harvesting them, drying them, grinding them up and storing them in jars to use all year round. Here goes round one of the summer....hopefully will get a couple more in this summer.

Picks of the garden...

Picks of my husband's garden and the variety of things he is attempting to grow. He really wishes he had a farm!! Our first produce, garlic!
