Today it was a hot one here for us...85 or so. So we headed to the Harborside Fountain Park down by the Bremerton ferry...it was lots of fun!! It was the first time this year Angel has sported her bathing suit and she was very excited. It was also Emma's first time in one and she loved the water. It was refreshing and fun, although neither of the girls liked it when the big fountains in the middle would spurt out water from the top. (you can see in one of the pics it erupting behind us below) We enjoyed the sunshine and some yummy Cold Stone ice cream when we left...we are definitely going back here!! Lots of rocks and stones and sculptures for the kids to climb on and play with too. There will be concerts there starting on Fridays in August at 530 pm.

Friday Night Concert
Down at the Bremerton Waterfront Boardwalk, they are holding Friday night concerts from 6-8 pm for the next several weeks. We checked it out last night and had a BLAST!! The group, Jr. Cadillac, was awesome and we enjoyed the warm weather, good music and watching the boats and ferries pass by in the water. Could even see the top of Mt. Rainier. Angelica loved the fountains and a lot of the kids were playing in the water. We tried out a Teriyaki place and the Belgian beer & fry place (the best fries EVER!...Pepe when you come next we have to take you there and have a beer!). A lot of fun for free...come next week and have some fun with us!! (sorry I forgot my camera and had to use my phone to take pics)

Tidbits
Ok Ok....I will try to respond to those that have emailed with questions, but here is at least a list of books I have been reading about vaccinations and the diseases. The one that I LOVE that truly gives the information without EVER choosing a pro or con side, is Vaccinations: A thoughtful Parent's Guide, by Aviva Jill Romm. Also How to Raise a Healthy Child...in Spite of your doctor, by Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD. Vaccines, Are they really safe & effective? by Neil Miller. A Shot in the Dark, by Coulter and Fisher. Two GREAT websites with a lot of information and research are: National Vaccine Information Center (on the left side they list every disease with information on it and the vaccines etc) and Children of God for Life (an awesome site with Catholic direction, especially like the section if you click on the left on Moral and Historical Perspectives and then click on Moral Obligations...good information and food for thought!)
Some of the things we have used in our decision:
-you cannot know the effectiveness of each vaccine on each child for immunity unless you get a blood test drawn
-some of these diseases like chickenpox are better to contract naturally as a child to build lifelong immunity to it (vaccinations do not give you this) (would probably give them this shot when they are older if they do not contract it naturally because as an adult it it more serious....although with the vaccinations not a lot of kids are getting it anymore...which is leading to serious issues of adults getting cases of shingles...that is another topic!)
-too many shots at one time increase the risks of reactions and then also make it hard to tell which reaction is being caused by which vaccine
-babies immune systems need time to develop and breastfeeding passes along immunities already
-the chickenpox and MMR vaccines contain aborted fetal cell lines
-why would my babies need HEP B, especially at birth?? I am sure that for awhile they will not be having sex, exchanging needles etc. not necessary!
-so many of instances of these diseases that occur happen to just as many VACCINATED children as unvaccinated
-the research of links of the DPT vaccine and SIDS is REALLY interesting
-so many of these diseases if contracted are VERY treatable and then give you lifelong immunity to them.
Dr. Sears, while a proponent of vaccines, as issued a booklet that also now gives an alternative schedule for vaccinations so children do not get them as early or as many at one time....very interesting and makes sense to me!!
If you are wanting to do more research...what I did and found very helpful for my husband and I to discuss and make decisions (still deciding on some) is take each vaccine/disease and have a sheet of paper (or for me almost a notebook) for each one. List all the pros, cons, info, questions etc....makes it a lot easier to decide when each one is looked at and treated individually. Unfortunately with a lot of medical physicians unwilling to discuss these concerns with you and truthfully not educated on the specifics, it comes down to the parents needing to do the research and equip ourselves with the information to make the best decisions for our children. Good luck!!

Hot Topic
I have been debating whether or not to post anything on this hot topic lately, but I think it is one that should be discussed and decided on for each family. We have been doing LOTS of research and reading on this issue, vaccinations. I will post a list of books I have read later, but came across this chart and flyer and thought it was amazing to see truly how many shots our little ones have been given at certain times...we did all the regular immunizations with Angelica and had a couple adverse reactions. With Emma, we started at birth and her two month appointment but then due to some reaction and truly starting to research in depth what we had been debating for awhile, we stopped all with her. We have decided not to ever vaccinate before 6 months of age (as long as I am breastfeeding) and possibly up to one year. Then at that point we will still be very selective in which ones we do and when we do them. We have run into some very negative responses (to be expected) but feel very confident in the research and information we are gathering. There are LOTS of reasons why we have made this decision but I won't bore you with all of them here...but will recommend reading up on the issues and each individual disease and vaccine and making the best decision for you and your little ones that you can all feel comfortable with. This decision along with all the others is what makes parenting so much fun, right??
Decision Time
Thanks Maria for this post, I copied it below. I learned a lot about McCain just by watching the video on his front page of his site. Thanks for keeping us all up to date and informed. I love your site!!
"During the primaries, he was not my first choice. But now, he is by far my first choice. I could not in good conscience ever consider voting for the other candidate. John McCain has my vote! Please join me in lending him your support and prayers. There is so much at stake in this election."

New Song
Angel has been singing (or yelling) Jesus Loves Me for months now...I have been really working on her repertoire of other songs...she loves to sing and I tried to get her to stop being too silly to sing one of her new ones...any guesses for what song this is??

Happy Baptism Day Angel
Today is two years now since Angelica was baptized. We are trying to come up with special ways to celebrate this special day. So far we have thought of lighting their baptismal candles and saying a rosary, reading or watching videos on their Patron saint which for Angel is Saint Rose of Lima, or trying to get to mass on this day. Any suggestions or ways that you and your family celebrate your baptism day?? Angelica we pray that your faith will always be your guide and comfort and source of strength. Saint Rose of Lima, pray for her today!!

Eat Baby Eat
Ok, so all you mom's out there...I need your help!! We have been trying to introduce foods to Emma for several weeks now. First she was so bad at refusing them that I thought she wasn't ready. Lately though she has been reaching for everything, watching us eat and waking up a lot more at night. So I figured she should be ready. But, this sweet little girl is not taking well to much at all. We try the rice cereal, mashed bananas, applesauce, cheerios....so far nothing is working. She purses her lips together and I have to try and force the food in, only for her to make horrible faces and spit it back out. At this age Angel was already eating all kinds of foods....any tips or tricks you can recommend? I keep telling myself eventually she MUST eat but this nursing mama is getting tired of being this big girl's only source of food!! (she will be 8 months on the 20th!)
Movie Time
As unrealistic as the story may be, we did really enjoy watching the movie August Rush. The music story in it was really beautiful and I love the little boy actor in it! Here is the bishop's review.
Concerts in the Park
Last night we went to our local park for the Summer Concerts in the Park series. We are sad we missed the first one last Tuesday because the Navy Band played...at least they will be back for the last one as well!! We always enjoy these nights...we bring dinner with us and just let the kiddies play and enjoy the breeze and music (although last night's duo was interesting). They had some fun activities for the kids and Angel had fun trying them out and also tried making friends with a little boy...although I think she was a little too friendly for his liking! It was fun to have my mom, Alli and friend Becca there last night...come check it out with us next Tuesday!! (Down at the Boardwalk in Bremerton, they also have Friday night concerts...maybe we will try that this week too! Next week's group Trombanga is good, we heard them last year!)
